Contemporary brown cloth (one of at least three variants of unknown priority); spine slightly cocked; spine ends and board corners worn; some rubbing/flaking loss to spine's gilt lettering; front board's gilt steamship vignette remains reasonably bright. Text block edges toned. Interior foxing. Small yellow contemporary bindery ticket "Bound by | B. Bradley & Co. | Boston" discreetly affixed at rear pastedown's bottom left corner. Several quires slightly pulled with a few other lesser stress points but binding remains reasonably firm. Author's five-line ink inscription "To | J.G. Jewett Esq. | with the regards of his friend | Jno. O. Choules | March 1854" upon the front free endpaper. Rubricated title page. Publisher's twenty page catalog at rear.
