Item description from seller

1st printing. Gilt-stamped cloth. 274pp. Charmingly illustrated with pen & ink drawings by Ellison. Index. Inscribed by Ellison, "Howdy! Jess and Allie / you old skallywags / I'll be with yah some day / & find all the arrowheads / Old Heathen Slim / Glenn R Ellison / (date in 1968)," under which is Ellison's black ink drawing of three steers on the run. Laid in is a newspaper clipping of a photo of Ellison holding his painting of "Apache women gathering sahuaro fruit which he will present to Rice School." The Santa Fe New Mexican aptly described this book as "Easy reading, entertaining, the way the cowboy lived, worked, etc. this is real stuff. No punches pulled." The author's writing style in both the book & the letter is reminiscent of the way Charlie Russell wrote. Some toning to front endpapers. A near fine copy in a fine dj.
