NY: Alfred A. Knopf, 1962. First Edition, Signed. 8vo. xxii,335,xv pages, Index, Bibliography. 6 maps by Robert W. Calvin and 44 b&w photographs on glossy stock. Red cloth, spine letters and design in gilt, image on front cover stamped in black. Book in very good plus condition, brief moderate wear to shelf edges of boards. Dj defective, chips and loss, front flap separated. Signed & inscribed by the authors on the front endpaper: "To our admired friend Warren / D. and F.K." and additionally signed below, "Delia and Ferdinand Kuhn." Warren is Warren Unna, Washington Post bureau chief in New Delhi from 1965 to 1967 and later an American correspondent for The Statesman, an English-language newspaper based in Kolkata. Wording on dj suggests that this work by two distinguished journalists could be prophetic as they report on six borderlands that might become trouble spots: Hokkaido (Japan), Islands of the Sulu Sea (between Philippines and North Borneo); Shans and Kachins (Burma); Sikkim (Himalayas); Afghan Turkestan, and Turkey's Eastern Provinces.; 6 maps, 44 b&w photographs; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 335 pages; Signed by Author.
