Add to basketA signed presentation copy of the scarce first edition of this charming collection of poetic verse and miscellany from Northumberland artist Joseph Crawhall. One of only fifty copies produced.Inscribed to the head of the title page: 'Mrs. Geo. Armstrong with the author's kind regards'. Illustrated throughout by Crawhall himself, with the book printed lithographically from Crawhall's pen and ink drawings, with a number of contributions from his son, Joseph Crawhall III. With five hand coloured plates, and numerous head and tail pieces, many also hand coloured. Collated, complete.A wonderful collection of angling verse and miscellaneous drollery, with many pieces concerning the author's native Northumberland.In the 1880s and 1890s, Crawhall's work became associated with the Glasgow School, and his work was strongly influenced by the Impressionists. The publisher notes that following the production of these fifty copies, the plates were destroyed. In the original half morocco binding, with cloth covered boards. Externally, lovely, with a touch of rubbing to board perimeters. Bookseller's label to front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages a touch age toned, with the odd light mark, but otherwise clean and bright. Near Fine.
