Item description from seller

First printing, published in October 1911. Boards show light wear to corners and spine ends; binding tight; pages clean; endpapers show a few faint foxing spots. Inscribed on half-title page 'from the author's brother Joe Rihani' to a recipient in Boston, Mass., and dated Sept 1912. A landmark work: the first novel written in English by an Arab-American. Original editions are startlingly uncommon, and presentation copies even more so. Ameen, born in Lebanon in 1876, was the eldest of six children (Youssef 'Joe' Rihani was the next, born in 1881) and moved to New York at age 11. He published several works of poetry and essays in Arabic before turning to English for 'The Book of Khalid'; Khalil Gibran, whom he had befriended the previous year in Paris, provided illustrations. Presumably originally published with a (plain) dust jacket, long since missing. 349 pages. Buyers, contact me for a possible discount.

Store description

Hi all! I've been accumulating volumes for well over half my life, mostly autographed and inscribed copies. Wrote a book on book collecting for a Random House imprint in 2004 and another, "Book Collecting Now: The Value of Print in a Digital Age," for Chatwin Books, published in 2019. I intended to keep most of these books forever, but my wife and I decided to move to Manhattan, which meant downsizing from an enormous suburban house, with practically unlimited bookshelf space, to an apartment in Greenwich Village. So hello, AbeBooks!
