Add to basketFirst edition. Issued as The Unicorn Quartos, Number Two. Small quarto. pp 62, [2] adverts. Ten-page Introduction by the artist's close friend W.B. Yeats. Twenty-three full-page pen-and-ink drawings several of which show the strong influence of Aubrey Beardsley and some with a mystical visionary quality. The tipped-in publisher's slip seeks to clarify Yeats's reference to ''The Brotherhood of the New Life'' in his introduction. Yellow pictorial buckram, much in the style of The Yellow Book.Presentation copy from the artist with, on the front free endpaper, an original silhouette drawing by him of what could be the Mont-Saint-Michel. Under the image the artist has written, ''William T. Horton: to: Capt. A.T. Warre.'' Horton has also inscribed the half-title page: ''William T. Horton. 24.4.98.'' On the front pastedown is Warre's large pictorial bookplate designed by E. Haldane MacFall, with its minatory legend, ''Borrowing is the Scissors of Friendship''. Annesley T. Warre (c1861-1937) was a noted collector of ceramics. On the rear pastedown are two pertinent cuttings. Some spotting, mostly to the prelims and final leaves. Covers a bit dusty. Very good.
