Item description from seller

This is the Deluxe Edition. While the standard first edition was printed in a larger run on regular paper, this premium version was limited to exactly 110 copies printed on fine handmade paper by the Camelot Press Ltd. The handwritten number confirms that this specific book is No. 103 out of that exclusive 110-copy run. As explicitly stated in the printed text block above it, every single copy in this tiny print run was personally signed by Cecil Beaton in ink. The Book of Beauty is Sir Cecil Beaton's first published book. It is heavily celebrated by collectors as a landmark title that defined the aesthetic of the 1920s and 1930s "Bright Young Things" social scene in London. Beaton designed it as an unashamed paean to the glamour and theatricality of the women in his social sphere. He drew inspiration directly from the keepsake "books of beauty" published during the Victorian period. The book is exceptionally visual, containing a colored frontispiece drawing of Queen Alexandra, 27 high-quality black-and-white collotype photographic plates, and roughly 100 whimsical line drawings embedded throughout the text. Beaton paired each visual depiction with short, witty, and often flowery biographical descriptions of his subjects. Very good condition, with vellum over plates. Some browning on edges of first few pages. Comes with mylar dust jacket. Happy to answer any questions.
