Signed with an inscription by Douglas Hofstadter to Helga Keller who was the administrator of the Center for Research on Concepts and Cognition at Indiana University where Hofstadter was the director. Includes a postcard dated 11-23-96 (the exact date that the introduction to the book was written) to Helga Keller and mailed from Cahors France. Includes a small print of the poem Ma Mignonne by Clement Marot which was translated by Carol Hofstadter and is a topic in this book. Includes an odd surrealistic photo that is double exposed with a house in a winter landscape and a scattering of books. Unknown who the photographer is. Also included but not shown is a photo of two children sitting on a couch, presumably they are Danny and Monica Hofstadter, the children of Douglas and Carol. First edition/1st printing.
