First edition, with ad leaf and book catalogue dated May, 1891. Signed by John Lockwood Kipling, the father of Rudyard, who illustrated both of his son's "Jungle Books," on the half-title page. Richard Watson Gilder's copy, with the longtime editor of Century Magazine's library bookplate on the front endpaper and ownership signature on the half-title page. Gilder serialized Kipling's "The Naulahka, A Story of West and East" in the Century. A significant work with a distinguished provenance.
