Some minor staining on the page edges. A rare unclipped dustjacket, hard to come by with some cuts and chips missing on the spine and back wrapper. Inscribed by Henry Beston on the front free endpaper to his family members with a black pen. "To Morton and Margaret with Henry's gratitude and love. Henry Beston H.B and E.C.B [Elizabeth Coatsworth] home from Cape Cod July 3'd, 1929" Accompanying the edition is a heartfelt beautiful (three page) Letter from Henry Beston Size: 8 1/2" x 11" on writing paper with fold marks handwritten to his sister with regards to her husband and Mother. HENRY BESTON was an American writer and naturalist, and is considered one of the fathers of the modern environmental movement. His now classic observations of Cape Cod are captured in his classic, The Outermost House, written after Beston spent what he called "a year of life on the Great Beach of Cape Cod", and has been called one of the motivating factors behind the establishment of the Cape Cod National Seashore. Author Rachel Carson said that Beston was the only author who ever influenced her writing. Beston married writer Elizabeth Coatsworth in 1929.
