Near good hardcover in near very good jacket. Rare early printing signed by both Rand and O'Connor. Charles Francis "Frank" O'Connor (1897-1979) was an American actor, painter, rancher, and husband of Ayn Rand. He performed in several films during the silent and early sound eras. On the set of the 1927 film "The King of Kings," he met Ayn, and they married in 1929. When locating to California for the movie adaptation of The Fountainhead, Frank purchased and managed a ranch in the San Fernando Valley. Here, he raised numerous flora and fauna and developed the Lipstick and Halloween hybrids of Delphinium and Gladiolus. Frank, also a fine painter, lended artistry with his surreal and futuristic cover painting for the 25th anniversary edition of "The Fountainhead". Although rather soft spoken and gentle, Ayn stated that Frank was an inspiration for her writing and the ideal male protagonists Howard Roark and John Galt. In 1956, regarding this particular novel, Ayn was writing what was tentatively titled "The Strike". Frank suggested "Atlas Shrugged" and this became its title forevermore. In "Atlas Shrugged", Ayn Rand's greatest achievement and last work of fiction, she dramatizes her unique philosophy through an intellectual story that integrates ethics, metaphysics, epistemology, politics, and sex. Set in a near-future U.S.A. whose economy is collapsing as a result of the mysterious disappearance of leading innovators and industrialists, this novel presents an astounding panorama of human life. Endowed with larger-than-life characters, and charged with towering questions of good and evil, Atlas Shrugged is a revolutionary epic. 1184 pages. Insured post. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.…
