With decorative endpapers, gold gilt cover designs and page edges, and a satin ribbon page marker. Includes an introduction by the author not found in other editions. Also includes the Franklin Library letter to Signed First Edition subscribers. For four decades, the late Phillip Roth was one of America's premier authors beginning with his first novel, "Goodbye Columbus" which was awarded the National Book Award for Fiction in 1960. Mr. Roth's other important literary works include "Portnoy's Complaint," "The Counterlife" (The National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction in 1987), "Operation Shylock" (The PEN/Faulkner Award in 1994), "Sabbath's Theater" (The National Book Award for Fiction in 1995), "The Human Stain" which was awarded the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction in 2001 and "American Pastoral" which was awarded the 1998 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. In 1998 Philip Roth was honored with the National Medal of Arts at the White House. A beautiful edition.
