Tight, attractive first edition of the second volume in this trilogy -- and tipped to front flyleaf is a sheet of Boorstin's 5" X 8" imprinted "Office of the Director" letterhead from the National Museum of History and Technology at the Smithsonian Institution, which he has inscribed and signed large and bold in blue fineline: "Greetings / from / Daniel J Boorstin." The first book in this trilogy, "The Americans: The Colonial Experience" (1958), was awarded the Bancroft Prize for best book on history, the second volume was awarded the Francis Parkman Prize, and the third volume, "The Americans: The Democratic Experience" (1973), was awarded the Pulitzer Prize.
