Octavo, 377 pages. In Very Good condition with a Very Good minus condition dust jacket. Tan spine with faded red lettering. Dust jacket is wrapped in a mylar covering, price is clipped, has mild shelving wear, small closed tears along the rear tail edge and rear tail fore corner, stains throughout, and mild age-toning throughout. Boards have stains throughout, light bending wear along the rear fore corners, and mild wear along the spine. Textblock has stains on the end-pages and pastedowns, mild wear along the edges, moderate age-toning along the edges, and moderate foxing along the head edge. Mordecai Richler was born January 27, 1931 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada to two Jewish parents, his maternal grandfather being Rabbi Yehudah Yudel Rosenberg, a Polish rabbi celebrated there and in Canada, and author of several religious texts. Richler would leave Montreal for Paris in 1950 seeking to follow in the footsteps of the "Lost Generation" of authors from the 1920's known for living and writing abroad. Richler would return to Montreal in 1952 for two years before settling in London until 1972. While in London, Richler would write his first seven novels, including his most well known novel, "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz". "The Apprenticeship of Duddy Kravitz" was published in 1959 to highly positive critical acclaim, solidifying Richler as one of the greatest authors of his generation. The novel would see a 1974 film adaptation of the same name which itself won several awards including the Bear Award of the 24th Berlin International Film Festival and the Canadian Film Award for Best Motion Picture. 1393155.
