Allen, Totten's Wells, Kentucky, Sept. 12, 1829, 7.75 x 12.25 inches, bifolio 4 pp. Bifolio leaf, writing on three sides; ink strong and clear; paper fragile, toned; some separation along previous folds; modern repair tape to topmost fold; good condition. Long letter full of interesting content - N. L. Allen discusses in detail the rich soil and other agreeable aspects of life in Totten's Wells, North Carolina, which he locates as being in Hickman County, KY, "north to the State line 4 miles, 15, to Moscow, 30, to Columbus about 150 yards East to Weakley County 35 miles due South to Trenton, Gibson County". About half of the letter is dedicated to discussion of the purchase of land, as the sender wishes to locate permanently in the county, writing, "All I need is a tract of land, a good house and a girl to go with it." He then writes about various marriage prospects that it seems he and Thomas C. Jones, Esq. have already spent some time discussing. A one-of-a kind piece of nineteenth century Americana.
