Item description from seller

First edition, dedicated to the King: a continuation of Boyce’s Cathedral Music and ‘a valuable contribution to the repertory of available anthems and services at a time when cheap octavo editions were unknown’ (Fellowes, English Cathedral Music, p. 219). Composers include Child, Croft, King, Greene, Aldrich, Purcell, and Boyce. Arnold (1740–1802) was Organist at the Chapel Royal (where he had sung as a child) and Westminster Abbey, as well as being founder of the Glee Club, conductor of the Academy of Ancient Music, etc., and a popular composer for the stage. BUCEM, p. 51; RISM Recueils, p. 124. 4 vols, folio (401 × 297 mm), pp. 299, [1]; 301, [1]; 296; [2], 305, [1]; entirely engraved, by Thomas Bennett; some light offsetting/browning and occasional light spotting; in vol. II, pp. 125/6 loose; contemporary half calf, marbled paper sides (extremities worn, some light surface wear), red morocco labels lettered gilt to upper covers.…
