His father named him as Emanuel HaRusi on a notebook of poetry he wrote as a child, inspired by the name Emanuel HrRomi, a great 14th century Hebrew poet. The name stuck. Emanuel HaRussi was a poet, and author and translator of children's books, poetry etc., was one of the founders of the satirical Theatre HAMATATE (= the boom).As a child his father had him meet Bialik. He started reading Hebrew at age 3 and mastered half a dozen other languages.
