About this Item
84pp. With an engraved frontispiece. Uncut in recent tan paper boards. Very minor wear to extremities. Internally clean and crisp. A comedy in five acts, first printed in 1706, by playwright George Farquhar (1677-1707). Born in Londonderry Farquhar attended Trinity College, Dublin, before deciding on a career as a stage performer. His theatrical pursuits were however short-lived, he retired from the stage having accidentally wounded a fellow actor. Following a move to London Farquhar took to playwriting, primarily comedies. Several of his works were produced, beginning with Love and a Bottle in 1699, and ending with The Beau Stratagem in 1707. Farquhar lived to know of the commercial success of his final play but died in penury. ESTC T46515. Size: 12mo. Seller Inventory # AQ14090
