Some kids love being around people—but sometimes their brain energy runs out.

Leo and the Quiet Recharge is a gentle, relatable story that helps children understand social fatigue, an often-overlooked part of executive functioning and emotional self-regulation.

Leo enjoys playing with friends, answering questions in class, and laughing during recess. But by the end of the day, his brain feels crowded and noisy. Leo learns that spending lots of time talking, listening, and thinking with others uses a special kind of energy called social energy.

With the help of a simple “recharge plan,” Leo discovers how quiet breaks, breathing, and calm activities can help his brain reset.

This supportive story helps children learn:

• How to recognize social fatigue and mental overload
• Simple self-regulation strategies to calm their brain
• Why quiet time is healthy, not rude or selfish
• Executive function skills for managing energy and attention
• How to build emotional awareness and self-advocacy

Perfect for:

• Neurodivergent-friendly classrooms

• Children experiencing social overwhelm or school fatigue

• Parents teaching emotional intelligence and self-management skills

• Teachers supporting executive functioning development

Written in warm, accessible language, Leo and the Quiet Recharge helps children understand that it’s okay to enjoy people—and still need time to recharge.

A reassuring story that teaches kids how to listen to their brain and care for their energy.
