Synopsis

A Coming of Age is a celebration of the work of the first 18 years of The Eden Project Florilegium Society, fondly called the 'Flor' by its members.

The Society was founded in 2000 to record plants in Cornwall and those held at The Eden Project in particular, which opened its gates to the public in the same year. There are over 140 paintings in the archives donated by 31 different artists, many of whom exhibit nationally and internationally and hold RHS Gold medals for their work.

"Each artist donates their time and their paintings generously to The Archives and The Trustees of The Eden Project. In gratitude and in order to acknowledge their generosity, skill and talent, this book has been written and compiled to help bring their work to a wider audience and demonstrate the quality of botanical illustration held by the Trustees. About the Author

Ros Franklin studied Botanical Painting at The English Gardening School within The Chelsea Physic Garden, London in 2003, where she was awarded a Diploma in Botanical Painting with Merit. She joined the Eden Project Florilegium Society in 2004 and became Chairman in January 2012. Ros was elected a Fellow of The Linnean Society of London in October 2013 for her work in Botanical Painting, and Botany. In 2015 she was awarded an RHS Gold Medal for her first solo exhibition entitled 'Arisaemas for the Sheltered Garden and Greenhouse'. The RHS Lindley Library purchased Arisaema speciosum var. mirabile from the exhibition. Ros has been sharing her love of botanical painting since 2008 in her studio, and is one of the regular tutors at The Eden Project, RHS Rosemoor and Field Breaks in Derbyshire. She has exhibited nationally and internationally including The Royal Botanic Garden of Sydney at 'Botanica' 2016, 2017 and 2018; the Palmengarten Botanic Gardens in Frankfurt, Germany in 2016; and the Real Jardin Botanico Botanic Gardens in Madrid in 2018. Ros has recently been invited to paint for The Florilegium Society of the Royal Botanic Garden of Sydney.
