We saw a great number of wild fowl at different times. The ducks were in immense ﬂocks; and hawks, particularly a white species, very plentiful. Of the pelicans, which are so common lower down, we saw none; nor did we observe any of the white herons, which yield the beautiful aigrettes, though they are said to be pretty frequent. The solitary beaver, which is common enough above Vienna, is rarely or never found in Hungary!
