About this Item
This photographic portrait of the debonair Governor Thomas E. Dewey, is inscribed in the lower right margin: "To James R. Macduff With Warm Personal Regards, Thomas E. Dewey Jan. 7, 1953." The image, which measures 9 1/4" x 7 1/4", is copyrighted "1948 Greystone Studios" in the negative, overall 14" x 11". As Governor of New York from 1943-1954, Thomas E. Dewey (1902-1971) oversaw the creation of the State University system and the NYS Thruway. He was unsuccessful in two campaigns as the Republican candidate for President, the second of which was the famous "Dewey Defeats Truman" race of 1948. Condition: A few small spots in lower left blank margin, a number of barely visible short "creases" also in the margins (one of which touches the signature). Generally very good.
