About this Item
Seventeen-time All-Star left fielder Theodore Samuel Ted Williams (1918-2002) signed this photograph of Griffith Stadium in Washington, D.C. after it was abandoned in 1961 and quickly became overgrown. Williams wrote boldly across half the photo: To John, We both remember this when it didn t have the grass . Ted Williams played for the Boston Red Sox from 1939-1942 and then again from 1946-1960 after going on a three-year hiatus to serve in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. Williams ended his career with a .344 batting average, 521 home runs, and a .482 on-base percentage, the highest OBP of any MLB player. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1966. 7 7/8 x 6 . Condition: Fine condition. Seller Inventory # A00573
