About this Item
Original photograph of the Maori village of Koriniti on the Whanganui River in 1885. The village was established in 1848 and named by the Whanganui missionary the Rev Richard Taylor. The image shows the village, with whares with raupo roofing, the front fence and a group of15 men and children. The original photographic print, 20 x 15 cm is mounted on card, 18 x 23 cm. A particularly important, clean and evocative image of a village in the 1880s. Seller Inventory # 019699
