Il est renommé pour ses scènes de genre, portraits, photos d'architecture et de paysages égyptiens en particulier, du pourtour méditerranéen en général. Il était le frère de Felice Beato, avec qui il travailla en diverses occasions.On ne sait que peu de choses sur ses origines. Il naquit probablement vers 1825 en territoire vénitien avant d'obtenir la citoyenneté britannique. Il existe néanmoins de nombreuses preuves que son frère Felice naquit à Corfou, alors propriété de Venise, mais placée peu après, en 1814, sous protectorat britannique, par le traité de Paris.Il utilisait souvent la version française de son prénom, Antoine, peut-être parce qu'il travaillait beaucoup en Égypte où la langue française était répandue à l'époque.À la fin des années 1860, il collabora avec Hippolyte Arnoux, qui couvrait les travaux de percement du canal de Suez.Antonio Beato (born 1825, died 1906), also known as Antoine Beato, was an Italian and British photographer. He is renowned for his genre scenes, portraits, architecture and photos of Egyptian landscapes in particular, the Mediterranean in general. He was the brother of Felice Beato, with whom he worked on various occasions.We know only little about its origins. He was probably born around 1825 in Venetian territory before obtaining British citizenship. Nevertheless, there is ample evidence that his brother Felice was born in Corfu, then owned by Venice, but placed soon after, in 1814, a British protectorate, by the Treaty of Paris.He often used the French version of his name, Antoine, perhaps because he worked a lot in Egypt, where the French language was prevalent at the time.In the late 1860s, he collaborated with Hippolyte Arnoux, which covered the digging of the Suez Canal. // Circa 1950 // Tirage argentique d'époque // Format (cm): 8,5x13.
