Approx 7 x 9 5/8 inches tall, silver print (moderate toning, soiling, which is very apparent at verso, a small bit of grazing, trimmed a bit close at top and bottom edges, a few minor cracks in emulsion, else good). This image was used for the cover of Kazin s book Writing Was Everything published by Harvard University Press, 1995. [With]: 3 silver prints, photographer unknown, apparently from the same day s shoot printed on matte paper: An approx 5 x 7 inches tall image in a tweed jacket printed on (minor wear and soiling, else very good). -- An approx 7 x 5 inches tall image, in same suit smoking a pipe and looking up at sky (moderate wear, and soiling, else very good). -- A roughly 4 1/2 inch square roughly trimmed, image of of Kazin, same jacket, smoking a pipe with hint of a grin. Jack Kerouac said of Kazin, I like this guy because he is excited. Born into a poor Jewish family from Brownsville, Brooklyn, Kazin first gathered attention in his 20 s with publication of On Native Grounds.
