An interesting autograph in economic history. Newland s entry in the Oxford DNB states that His signature on Bank of England notes became so familiar that they were known as Abraham Newlands. His fame in this respect was commemorated in several popular jingles . A good firm signature, A Newland , with that of the witness R Ettie , at the foot of printed form, completed in manuscript, paying Newland £33 15s 0d as assignee to an executor. On aged paper, with the part of the document bearing the signatures in good condition, but the upper portion damaged and worn, with perhaps a quarter of it worn away around the left-hand margin.
