1st letter dated Aug 9th 1790. from Mr. Brown to Mr Pratt of The Canal Office, Worcestershire, mentions the ??? & lock house, boats , tonnage is paid, considerable sum of money, Rhy Whalf between Longford & Banbury etc. Also what seems to be a hand written reply by Mr Pratt of The Canal Office partly over the original address of The Canal Office dated Aug 19th (10 days later), to an unknown person relating to Mr Brown?s letter. 2nd letter dated 21st Aug 1790. from Mr. John Brown to The Rev. Dr Davey of Cheltenham letting him know he has written to Mr Pratt & Mr Pratt?s reply came this evening. Addressed to The Rev. Dr. Davey to the house of Mr. Wm. Hollaps in Banbury. 3rd letter dated October 20th 1790. from Mr. Brown to Mr Pratt, at Henwick near Doncaster. in answer to his letter dated 28th. And another letter re The Rev. Dr. Davey & Mr D??? was at my house this day etc., etc. 4th letter dated August 7th 1791. from Mr. Biggs to Isaac Pratt Esq, at Henwick near Worcester. Re letter from The Rev. D. Davey and mentions other people, Bedworth Colliery etc. . From Net; Isaac Pratt was a prominent figure in the 18th century world of canals. He came from Henwick in Worcestershire and in 1835 built a wharf at Wilden, named after him on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal (S&WC) . He then built a connection to the River Stour, via a lock, to deliver timber to a steam saw-mill in Wilden, and iron and coal could be transhipped to Wilden Iron Works. Specialist crews were needed to navigate the difficult waters of the Stour river. You can still see remnants of the link between the waterways. He is sometimes described as a businessman and a merchant. The wharf seems to have changed name from Pratt?s Wharf to Platt's Wharf by the late nineteenth century. Seller Inventory # 003658
