About this Item
American Realist novelist William Dean Howells (1837-1920) scrawled and signed these two kind notes to a James W. Donaldson, Esq. The two notes, one dated Feb 21, 1886, and the other dated May 16, 1886, both extend Howells thanks to Donaldson for the same very kind note . It seems that Howells may have forgotten he already replied to Donaldson s letter, as Donaldson suggests in the included copy of his reply sent on May 18, 1886. Howells is remembered for his years spent as editor of The Atlantic Monthly and for his novels, some of which include: The Rise of Silas Lapham and A Traveler from Altruria. The two notes are written on gilt-edged paper measuring 7 x 4 ½ . One transmittal envelope (sans stamp) also included. Condition: Very good condition. Seller Inventory # A00607
