TYPED LETTER personally signed "Chuck Yeager" in blue ink. This letter in on Yeager, Inc. letterhead, measures 7.5" X 10" and is dated August 6, 1992. Letter has normal mailing folds otherwise in fine condition. The letter states "Dear Christopher: / I have received word that you have attained the highest / award in scouting, the Eagle, and that an Eagle Court of Honor is / being held for you. / I would like to congratulate you on your becoming an Eagle / Scout. I am sure you have earned this prestigious award by doing / a great job for the troop and for your community. I wish you the / very best of luck in your efforts and press on! / Sincerely, / (signed) Chuck Yeager / Brig. Gen., USAF, Ret.". Aviator and test pilot Chuck Yeager was born on February 13, 1923, in Myra, West Virginia. A fighter pilot ace during World War II, he became the first person to break the sound barrier, when he flew the Bell X-1 rocket 670 mph in level flight in October 1947. Yeager held various Air Force Command assignments from 1954 to 1962 and broke the sound barrier for the last time at age 74, when his F-15 Eagle reached a speed of Mach 1.45.
