Printed notice promoting meetings of the People's Party with lectures by Carrie Filkins Young on the following subjects: "Political Issues: of Vital Interest to Women"; "The Black Page of American History"; or "White Slavery: How [it became] Fastened Upon the American People". The People's Party, also known as the Populist Party, was a leftist agrarian political party influential in the 1890s. Carrie Filkins Young (1828-1910) was an influential activist outspoken for women's rights in the 1890s. She was also a physician and temperance lecturer. Small broadside/printed notice measuring 9" by 6", verso blank. Carrie Filkins Young, 1828-1910, was a temperance lecturer, physician, and newspaperwoman, born in New York State, the daughter of George and Salomne (Gardner) Filkins. She married twice; her second husband was William J. Young, whom she met while studying medicine at California Medical College in Oakland, from which she graduated in 1884. She served as editor of the Women's Pacific Coast Journal and the Pacific Journal of Health. Seller Inventory # 22001457
