About this Item
Renowned American operatic soprano Emma Eames (1865-1952) exuberantly penned and signed this letter to a Dr. Curtis, telling him that I am going to see you tomorrow Thursday at 12 & I am going to bring somebody with me whose noozle I want you very much to look at. Emma Eames began taking singing lessons as a young girl and later studied with Charles R. Adams in Boston and Mathilde Marchesi in Paris. She sang in New York, London and Paris at the turn of the century and was admired for her particularly beautiful voice. Eames debuted at the Metropolitan Opera in 1891 and was a regular performer there until 1909. There is no date, but Eames was only married to Julian Russell Story, a society painter, from 1891 to 1907, so presumably, this letter was written within those 16 years. Written on three pages of a sheet of blue stationery that measures 6 7/8 x 8 5/8 when unfolded. Condition: Fold lines, otherwise in very good condition. Seller Inventory # A00878
