Außerdem schrieb er Gedichte und eine Vielzahl von Kurzgeschichten. Kipling gilt als wesentlicher Vertreter der Kurzgeschichte und als hervorragender Erzähler. Seine Kinderbücher gehören zu den Klassikern des Genres. 1907 erhielt er als damals jüngster und erster englischer Schriftsteller den Literaturnobelpreis.
