About this Item
A rare "Anti-Valentine" card, possibly by Dobbs and Co, depicts a jaunty chap clothed in the fashion of the 1840's-50's which when the coat is opened reveals a lesser salubrious version of the gentleman, a few lines of printed verse beneath reads that in looking for a mate for romance hints and the parody of his disguise. "You wear that frolicksome and jaunty air, well if you bind yourself in wedlock's tethers, I wonder what she'll think of you without your feathers?" split at fold line and a little damage at this area as it was once tipped into an album, some light foxing and aging, colours and movable part all bright, embossed scroll borders. Measures 18 x 12.5 cm. Seller Inventory # B00011
