About this Item
[34], 600pp. With an engraved frontispiece. Recent black cloth, lettered in gilt. Very minor wear to extremities. Recent bookplate, ink shelf marks, and paper slips of the Bath Municipal Reference Library to blank fly-leaves, with their occasional embossed stamps throughout, title and frontispiece a trifle dust-soiled, ownership inscription of 'Thomas Vaughan' in calligraphic hand to head of first leaf of text, else internally clean and crisp. Having first published his New State of England in 1691, praising the actions of the Prince of Orange during the Glorious Revolution against a perceived popish monarchy, Swiss lexicographer and historian Guy Miege (bap. 1644, d. in or after 1718), wrote this expanded version of far greater scope and detail. The work deals with the economics, social structure, and culture of England and Wales under Queen Anne; the language, religion, laws, universities, and government of the nations. ESTC T135115. Size: 8vo. Seller Inventory # AQ14493
