About this Item
Very good condition. Virginiae Item et Floridae by Hernicus Hondius was published in Amsterdam in 1647. This map is a beautifully detailed, hand-colored copperplate engraving of Virginia and Florida with accompanying Latin text. The map and it's publisher Hernicus Hondius both have a wonderful history. Hondius, the younger son of famed map publisher Jodocus Hondius. Like his father, Henricus was a cartographer and engraver. This map is the first to show the juxtaposition of the discoveries of John White in Virginia and North Carolina in 1585 and Jacques Le Moyne in Florida in 1563.
