this is an aesthetically pleasing compilation of aspects of physical geography. According to Tooley this is the first map to show ocean currents. additionally there are mountains in the form of volcanos. The map was part of Kircher's program of disseminating the latest information from Jesuits around the world. Kircher was prolific and scholars refer to him as the "last Renaissance man.".
