About this Item
Colour printed paper map 64x58cm, labelled in the Cyrillic alphabet, compiled in 1975 and published 1976. Very good, folded, lightly creased. This shows much of Kuwait including Kuwait City, and Basrah towards the eastern edge, and Najaf in the north. Features include settlements defined by number of inhabitants, the railway, various types of road, caravan routes or pack trails, airstrips, and several types of physical features. Two key diagrams locate each sheet, and demarcate administrative divisions. This was issued as part of the major global mapping programme by the Military Topographic Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the USSR, during 1950-90. Maps comply with International Map of the World standards, with each quadrangle on a 1:1,000,000 scale identified by lettered bands and numbered zones. Sources are not named, but for the wider series included a mix of existing maps and guidebooks, the Zenit Satellite Programme (from the 1960s), and "boots on the ground".
