"Adapted to the New Poor-Law, Franchise, Municipal and Ecclesiastical Arrangements, and Compiled with a Special Reference to the Lines of Railroad and Canal Communication, as existing in 1840-43. Illustrated by a Series of Maps forming a Complete County-Atlas of England, and by Four Large Maps of Wales. With an Appendix (in Vol. IV) containing the Results, in Detail, of the Census of 1841." pp(4)656(2). Text in two columns. 11 engraved maps - untitled map of North East Wales including Flintshire, Denbighshire, and parts of Merionethshire and Montgomeryshire, in six (2 rows of 3) segments opening out to 48x39.5cm / double-page maps of Lancashire, Leicestershire, Lincolnshire, Middlesex, Monmouthshire, Norfolk, Northamptonshire, Northumberland, Nottinghamshire, and Oxfordshire, seven of which with vignette view. Two engraved views - Liverpool from Seacombe, and London from the Tower of St. Saviour's. Edges of text-block red-speckled. Title-page faintly toned and sparsely spotted towards upper edge. Margins of text pages faintly toned at outer edges. Folding map with closed tear from inner edge extending 2cm beyond map border into innermost upper segment, with faint dampstains at fore-edge outside of map border, two minor misfolds, and furling outside of map border at free inner edge of innermost lower segment. Margins of other maps and both views with faint toning and/or light & sparse spotting towards outer edges, Lancashire also with minor dampstains at fore-edges well away from print. Top edge of text-block toned, other edges lightly so. Contemporary half calf. Spine with five lightly raised bands and gilt title and volume number etc on two red leather labels. Marbled paper-covered boards. Original endpapers, small 19th-century engraved bookplate on front pastedown. Spine lightly rubbed and a little marked, labels a little chipped. Front board with large jagged-edged sections of paper loss, rear board lightly rubbed; corners of both front and rear lightly grazed. Endpapers a little adhesive-stained, mainly at corners; hinge at rear endpapers a little dusty. Binding holding firmly and of pleasing shelf appearance. Text clean and tight; views in very good condition, map of NE Wales good, all ten double-page maps very good. VERY GOOD copy. (Heavy item, overseas shipping at cost.). Seller Inventory # 27635
