Item description from seller

Original publisher's black and white engraved nautical chart showing Long Island Sound. Chart with margins measures 19" x 8 5/8"; actual chart area measures 17 3/4" x 7 5/8." Chart is folded into fifths; vertical fold lines. Very faint dampstaining and a few spots. Chart is very clean and intact overall. The following is printed in the upper-left part of the chart: "Long Island Sound. Reduced from the Large Chart as Surveyed by E. Blunt. Engraved for Blunt's American Coast Pilot. By W. Hooker." At the top is "14th Edition." Beneath the chart, the following is printed: "New York; Published by E. & G. W. Blunt 1841." Scale of distance printed in lower-right corner in nautical miles. Chart includes numbers showing the water depths, natural water features such as Gardiner's Bay and Smithtown Bay, courses, and bearings. Edmund Blunt (1770-1862) was a publisher of nautical charts and books and printed the first edition of the American Coast Pilot in 1796. Around 1827, Blunt retired and his sons took over the company and continued his work as a publisher of high-quality sea charts. The Blunts were also known for their collaboration with the U.S. Coast Survey which allowed their charts to be up-to-date. Engraved by William Hooker.
