"Map of the Outfall Sewer of the City of Los Angeles" [3 items] under the supervision of J(ohn) H(Henry) Dockweiler, city engineer of Los Angeles. Published in (I think!) Water Supply and Irrigation Papers of the USGS No. 22, USGPO, 1899, in the paper by Burr Bassell (deputy city engineer of LA). 29"x 8.5", 8 old vertical folds. Crisp and bright. The map follows a skeletal path from right around Santa Monica and Vermont, going west to the ocean for about 12 miles, the path of the sewer going past Vernon, Western, and Cypress, through Hyde Park, then to Inglewood, and on to the sea. When the outfall opened in 1894, the ends of several zanjas were attached for flushing it."--Michael Holleran, "Water Qualities and Usage in the Zanjas of Los Angeles, 1781–1904" Offered with: "Profile of the Outfall Sewer of the City of Los Angeles" 29"x 8.5". Interesting profile showing elevation of the terrain. AND OFFERED with "Plans of the Outfall Sewer.Partial Details of Structures" showing some of the big plumbing fixtures. The population of Los Angles at this time in 1897 was about 75,000.…
