Item description from seller

Manuscript maps on one sheet, recto and verso, 557mm x 760mm, ink and colour drawn by Western Australian Ornithologist, D.L. Serventy, titled "Expedition 1960". Map (A): South-West Western Australia from Dongara to Albany, Esperance and Western Australian / South Australian border with places marked : Cundeelee Native Reserve, Boo-oonyoo, Joongulla, Boorabbie. Nullarbor Plain is in coloured (yellow). Map (B): showing routes of 'First Expedition' from Perth to Forrest Lakes through Elduna and Cundeelee Native Reserve / Mission (1,864 miles) ; and 'Second Expedition' from Perth to Warburton Mission (2,243 miles). One of the main purposes of this CSIRO expedition was to revisit Queen Victoria Springs which was reported to be full of water with a great stock of bird-life. D.L. Serventy found it to be almost dry, but inhabited by thousands of birds. The trip was made in an old Landrover, with approx. 1100 miles on speedo at completion of this trip- navigating calculations on verso. Some marks commensurate with navigation on this first Expedition.…
