Item description from seller

This is a rare map of Kentucky. It was hand pressed from a copperplate; and then handsomely hand colored at the time of publication. It was included in Atkinson's magazine "The Casket" There is a legend in the center showing canals in red and railroads in blue. This makes it a transportation map produced at a time when internal improvements were blooming. The blossoms were cut short by the Panic of 1857. Internal improvements were curtailed to essential only building. The Lexington & Ohio was incorporated in 1830. It was opened in 1832 with horse drawn cars. In 1833 steam engines were added. The canal at Louisville was not noted with red ink as called for in the legend. This map seldom appears on the market and as such belongs in any serious collection of the area.
