Title on the front differs slightly from the title on the maps which is: Kelly's New London Map, with Suburbs. B.L. states this version at 1925, however it is likely that it pre-dates this, as the Wembley Stadium development is not present and there is an unmarked outline for Arsenal football ground. This would suggest a date for either just pre-first world war or just post-first world war. The cover has been stamped: George Philip and Son Ltd, and the title page has their sticker placed over Kelly's details in two places, so they can be assumed to have just taken over distribution. Covers somewhat worn and frayed. Spine splitting and with loss to gutters and ends. Index present with some dust-marking and torn marbled cover sheet. Four large folded maps mounted on linen. North-west section: 15 panels, of which the upper five are still attached to the folder and the lower ten are detached, having split along the lateral fold. Some small holes to fold junctions. North-east section: not dissimilar to the previous, with significant tear along the upper lateral fold between the top 5 panels and the lower 10, estimated at over 50% tear. Once started, the linen tears very easily, so will need careful handling or repair. Some further wear to fold junctions. South west section: again following the same pattern but with only about a 10% tear along the same fold and with small tears at fold junctions. South-east section: in the best condition with minimal wear. All maps have three colours in use: blue for water, green for parks and yellow for major roads. Each section measures 100cm by 109cm approx. Scale 4 inches to 1 mile. Good printing clarity. An interesting map, showing the evolution of the suburbs in early 20th century London.
