Incisione in rame, colore d'epoca, 380x500. Elegante carta eseguita sul modello di Magini. Buon esemplare in coloritura a tutto campo ma leggermente brunito. W. Blaeu, astronomo allievo di Tycho Brahe, fondÚ un'officina per la costruzione di globi nel 1599; quasi immediatamente iniziÚ a pubblicare anche carte geografiche, giungendo nel 1630 alla creazione del primo atlante "Atlantis Appendix" e cinque anni dopo, della prima edizione in due tomi del "Atlas Novus". Dopo la sua morte nel 1638, a cura del figlio Johan si giunse nel 1662 alla pubblicazione del celebre "Atlas Maior" in 11 volumi. Condition: molto buono. Incisione in rame, colorata da mano coeva (cm 38x49 e ampi margini). Tratta dall'edizione latina dell'Atlas Novus pubblicato ad Amsterdam nel 1640 ca. Esemplare fresco e marginoso. (Blavius o Guilielmus Caesius o Guilielmus Jansonius). Cartografo olandese (Uitgeest 1571-Amsterdam 1638). Allievo a Praga dell'astronomo Tycho Brahe, nel 1599 si stabilì ad Amsterdam, dove iniziò la pubblicazione di atlanti e carte geografiche e la costruzione di mappamondi. Nel 1633 fu nominato cartografo della Repubblica. Alla sua morte l'azienda proseguì per opera dei suoi due talentuosi figli Cornelius (1616-1648) e Johannes (1596-1673) che ampliarono l'ambizioso progetto cartografico del padre. L'Atlas Major è il risultato dell'immenso lavoro dei Blaeu ed è riconosciuto unanimamente come uno dei momenti più alti nella storia della cartografia. Il lavoro dei Blaeu si interruppe nel 1672 quando il grande incendio di Amsterdam distrusse l'officina e gran parte delle lastre. L'anno seguente Johannes morì e le lastre rimanenti vennero disperse e acquistate dai rivali Frederick De Wit, Schenk e Valk. La casa editrice chiuse definitivamente nel 1695. Condition: ottimo. Incisione in rame. Carta geografica tratta dall'Atlante di Antonio Magini, pubblicata a Bologna dal figlio Fabio dopo la morte del padre. Bell'esemplare marginoso con due cartigli decorativi, in alto a sinistra e in basso a destra, riportanti rispettivamente il titolo della mappa e la dedica con la firma dell'autore. Ottimo stato di conservazione. Magini, cartografo ed astronomo padovano, dopo aver terminato gli studi di filosofia si dedica all'insegnamento della matematica ricoprendo la cattedra all'università di Bologna. Il suo Atlante rappresenta un fondamento per tutta a cartografia del XVII secolo, a cui si ispirarono i grandi autori fiamminghi, quali Blaeu e Jansonio. Formato: 355x485mm. unbound. Map. Copper plate engraving with original hand coloring. Image measures 14.75" x 19.5". This beautiful circa 1662 map by Johannes Blaeu features the region of Istria, the largest peninsula in the Adriatic Sea. Oriented with north to the left, extends from the Gulf of Trieste to the Island of Cres in the Adriatic Sea to include part of Italy and Croatia. As a part of the Venetian Republic, this region contained many important sea ports that are highlighted on the map. The important regions of Istria (Trieste) and Pula are identified. The map also labels lakes, rivers and other topographic features with beautifully rendered mountains and forests. An elaborate title cartouche features men in armor and a winged lion. The scale cartouche is illustrated with winged mer folk, while a ship sails the Adriatic Sea. In good condition with minor wear along the original centerfold. Original plate mark is visible. Minor foxing. One of the most prolific Dutch mapmakers of his time, Willem Blaeu (1571-1638) started one of the most famous map publishing firms of the 17th century. It was at this time that the Dutch controlled the map trade, and their ornate and beautiful maps had immense popularity. Blaeu and his family worked out of Amsterdam and was instrumental in driving this dominance in his lifetime, and this legacy was continued by his sons. This series was published by his son Johannes (c. 1599-1673), who took over the business upon his father's death. Seller Inventory # 273790

Incisione in rame, colorata a mano, mm 355x480. Piacevole carta del territorio, tratta da "Italia" il fondamentale primo atlante con carte di tutta la penisola, che il geografo e matematico Magini realizzÚ a fine '500, ma che, a causa della sua morte, fu pubblicato solo nel 1620 dal figlio. Grazie ai contatti personali con le istituzioni ed i pi? importanti cartografi del tempo, Magini ebbe a disposizione materiale cartografico talvolta inedito o comunque non disponibile per gli studiosi. La sua opera costituÏ il fondamento di tutta la cartografia del XVII secolo, venendo costantemente copiata da tutti i successivi autori. Due bei cartigli. Splendida carta dell'Istria, Croazia, Slovenia, Golfo di Trieste e Golfo di Venezia, arricchita da un bellissimo cartiglio in alto a sinistra riportante il titolo, ed una scala di rappresentazione militare Italo-tedesca in basso a destra. Ottimo stato di conservazione. Fine antique map of Istria, Croatia Slovenia round the Gulf of Trieste and the Gulf of Venice.
