Item description from seller

An eye-catching early copper engraved survey road map, hand-colored, with the route shown with seven vertical segments, each as if they were unspooled scrolls, and towns and landmarks en route rendered with lovely vignettes. Landmark devices include churches, hills, bridges. Also hand-colored are the directional devices, one for each segment, and the Rococo decoration framing the title cartouche. With frame and matting, 43.5 by 52 cm. The map itself, as fully visible: 34 by 42 cm. The frame, with a gilded sinewy embossed vine motif, is lovely and we think few would not want to keep it. The map was pulled from an atlas, and so one can still see a faint fold crease down its center. Some light soiling scattered about. The coloring remains bright, and we regard this copy as a most attractive copy of a map one may encounter with coloring or with coloring that is less intense or complete. Framed. Framing by Chelsea Frames, New York.
