Antique map of Morocco where Fez was still a separate kingdom at the time. Title cartouche bottom right; cartouche with scale stick lower left. Inset of Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera top left. Copper engraving with beautiful old color, made by Gerard Mercator in 1585. Published in Amsterdam in 1619 by Jodocus Hondius in "Atlas Sive Cosmographicae Meditationes De Fabrica Mundi Et Fabricati Figura. (.)." What is striking about this edition from 1619 is that the title page of the atlas has a Latin text, while the text edition as such is in French. Dimensions (picture): 36 x 49 cm.
