The Federal Telephone and Telegraph Company handled long stance service on a national grid of independent companies. They had the franchise for Wester New York. This map shows the extent of their service. It illustrates the connectivity of long distance service in the operator assistance era. The connections tended to be multiple and direct but could be sent through intermediate switchboards. This map is part of a greater scheme of telephone maps from the era.
