Rare British Indian b/w propaganda map with explanatory texts 68x44cm, printed on economy paper. Good, tanned with some foxing, folded, creased, hole-punched for filing, with minor impact on content. "WNR" identifies this as part of a series of maps produced to accompany the World News Report issued by the Director of War Publicity, National War Front. Two maps of Europe and North Africa show dramatic Allied progress from September 1942 to March 1943, distinguishing Axis, Axis occupied, Vichy French, and Allied and Neutral territories. This includes almost total removal of the Axis and Vichy French from West and North Africa, and Soviet advances from Stalingrad to the Black Sea marking the turning point on the Eastern Front. The caption states "Six months ago German machineguns were chattering on the barricaded streets of Stalingrad. Rommel's panzers were 60 miles from Alexandria. French North and West Africa provided abundant raw materials for the Axis war machine --- To-day Rommel and Von Arnim are fighting desperately in Tunisia, with their backs to the Mediterranean, fighting for time in which to fortify Europe against the Anglo-American assault, which must come soon after Africa has been cleared of the last vestige of Axis power". This poster supported the British Indian Government's comprehensive propaganda operation to keep the population onside. With India providing over 2 million troops and several million others to the war effort at home, it tied the war to the fate of India, praised Indian contributions, and countered Axis propaganda. It began in 1940 with Provincial and District War Committees coordinated from Calcutta, and continued with the National War Front (NWF) from 1942, under the Director of War Publicity at Victory House in Madras. The NWF operated through Directors at Presidency level supported by District and Divisional organisers, and an array of lecturers, propagandists, village leaders, and inspectors reaching deep into the grassroots. In support, Victory House published the weekly "Madras War Review", and served as a Central Information Bureau with a Showroom displaying its models for railway cars, charts, maps, posters, and other material, which were replicated in local NWF "Victory Houses" across India. Right of withdrawal
If you are a consumer you can withdraw from the contract in accordance with the following. Consumer means any natural person who is acting for purposes which are outside his trade, business, craft or profession.

Statutory right to withdraw
You have the right to withdraw from this contract within 14 days without giving any reason.
The withdrawal period will expire after 14 days from the day on which you acquire, or a third party other than the carrier and indicated by you acquires, physical possession of the last good or the last lot or piece.
To exercise the right of withdrawal, electronically fill in and submit a clear statement on our website, under "My Purchases" in "My Account". We will communicate to you an acknowledgement of receipt of such a withdrawal on a durable medium (e.g. by e-mail) without delay.
To meet the withdrawal deadline, it is sufficient for you to send your communication concerning your exercise of the right of withdrawal before the withdrawal period has expired.
Effects of withdrawal
If you withdraw from this contract, we will reimburse to you all payments received from you, including the costs of delivery (except for the supplementary costs arising if you chose a type of delivery other than the least expensive type of standard delivery offered by us).
We may make a deduction from the reimbursement for loss in value of any goods supplied, if the loss is the result of unnecessary handling by you.
We will make the reimbursement without undue delay, and not later than 14 days after the day on which we are informed about your decision to withdraw from this contract.
We will make the reimbursement using the same means of payment as you used for the initial transaction, unless you have expressly agreed otherwise; in any event, you will not incur any fees as a result of such reimbursement.
We may withhold reimbursement until we have received the goods back, or you have supplied evidence of having sent back the goods, whichever is the earliest.
You shall send back the goods or hand them over to Dendera, Beckenham, Kent, United Kingdom, without undue delay and in any event not later than 14 days from the day on which you communicate your withdrawal from this contract to us. The deadline is met if you send back the goods before the period of 14 days has expired. You will have to bear the direct cost of returning the goods. You are only liable for any diminished value of the goods resulting from the handling other than what is necessary to establish the nature, characteristics and functioning of the goods.
Exceptions to the right of withdrawal
The right of withdrawal does not apply to:
- The delivery of newspapers, journals or magazines with the exception of subscription contracts; and
- The supply of digital content which is not supplied on a tangible medium (e.g. on a CD or DVD) if you accepted when you placed your order that we could start to deliver it, and that you could not withdraw once delivery had started.
Shipping terms
SHIPPING: Domestic and international shipping is tracked and insured with UPS. This has unfortunately meant an increase in domestic rates especially, and in most cases I am absorbing some of the increase. (I have moved away from Royal Mail owing to a series of problems).
DELIVERY DEADLINES: If you have a hard deadline for receipt that is before the processing time stated on Abe, eg, if you need it to arrive urgently before you travel or before a particular event, please contact me at the time of order to advise, so options can be discussed and steps taken to ensure it gets there in time.
RETURNS: Please return any items for refund within 30 days of the estimated delivery date, and contact me first with the reason for the return to establish whether postal costs will be included in the refund. If the item is not as described, I will cover the original and return post.
