Covers present day Turkey, Cyprus, Syria, Israel, Lebanon, Iraq etc.Beautifully illustrated with 4 vignette engravings including views of The Castles of Europe and Asia and Jerusalem. The level of detail can be appreciated from the close up image provided. Original outline hand colouring. An excellent example of the preferred Montgomery Martin edition without the central fold. Fine condition other than some faint marginal spotting/soiling. Free of repairs or restoration. Approx. 14.5" x 10.5" (370mm x 260mm)overall.Printed on heavy grade paper, blank verso and unfolded. John Rapkin was a mapmaker who was concerned with the aesthetic value of his work as well as cartographic content. His fine maps are distinguished by the trademark decorative borders, vignettes and title displays. Rapkin worked in close association with the equally respected publisher John Tallis.
